Microsoft Surface - Touchpad Click is not working

Hi,

My touchpad click is not working, - it randomly stopped working while using it. I have everything updated, and have checked the device manager etc. and nothing is coming up. Scrolling and cursor movement is working fine, as well as the keypad etc. It just won't right or left-click.

What I have done so far, without any improvement :

  • I have checked the 'Device Manager' and selected the 'Human Interface Devices' and there's no warning sign on anything.
  • Updated Windows to it's latest version.
  • Troubleshoot Keypad.
  • Reset Touchpad Settings
  • Removed the keypad and attached it back.
  • Ran the troubleshooter on the keyboard
  • Multiple Restarts

Thanks in advance!

    Hi, Alex Lawler!

Thanks for reaching out to Microsoft Community and posting your concerns. We are sorry to learn you have issues with your Surface Type Cover that no longer clicks. Thanks for taking the time to let us know about this and allowing us to help you out. May we know the Surface device you're using? Please press Windows and R together, then type msinfo32. Then check the System Model to find out.

It seems you already tried most troubleshooting steps based on what you laid out above. Kindly try out the steps below:

    • Please run Surface Diagnostic Toolkit and make sure to complete the tasks.
    • If you haven't done a force shutdown on your device, please do so by following the steps below.

1.) Press and hold the power button until the screen turns off (about 10 seconds), then release the power button.

2.) Press and release the power button to turn your Surface back on. You should see the Surface logo.

If that doesn't work, use this two-button shutdown process to make sure your Surface turns off completely:

    1.    Press and hold the power button on your Surface until the screen turns off (about 30 seconds), then release it.

    2.    Press and hold the volume-up button and the power button at the same time until the screen turns off (about 15 seconds), then release both.

The screen may flash the Surface logo, but continue holding the buttons down for at least 15 seconds.

    3.    After you release the buttons, wait 10 seconds.

    4.    Press and release the power button to turn your Surface back on. You should see the Surface logo.

    ·         Verify if it works inSurface UEFI.

    1.    Select Start  > Settings  > Update & security  > Recovery.

    2.    Under Advanced startup, select Restart Now.

    3.    Under Choose an option, select Troubleshoot > Advanced Options > UEFI Firmware Settings, and then select Restart.

    4.    Verify if the touchpad allows you to do a left-click to select the menu on the left since right-click is not available.

If it doesn't select a menu when you left-click, the Type Cover needs to be replaced.

Kindly Contact Microsoft Support for replacement options. If you are outside the US, please check this page to know the number for your country in our list of Global Customer Service phone numbers.

Let us know how it goes.

    Kind regards,

    Janette_Z
