Surface Dock & Two External Monitors

I purchased the dock to what I thought I would be able to connect two external monitors -  making 3 total monitors (including the surface itself)

I have:

-Surface Pro 4

  • Docking Station (brick version)
  • 2 AON 12279 Monitors that are connected to Microsoft Wireless Display Adaptors (HDMI to the monitor and USB end connected to dock)

The dock recognizes both monitors, but can only activate one at a time.

Makes the dock kind of pointless when you cant have more than one screen.  Everything has been updated (firmware & drivers & surface)

How do I get the third monitor to display?

    Sara,

This is a little confusing. I'm not sure why you are using Microsoft Wireless Display Adapters. These use Miracast and you can only connect one at a time with Miracast (Miracast is a standard and this is the way it works, it isn't a limit of Windows or your Surface).

What you need is two MDP to HDMI adapters plus HDMI cables. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00S0BWR2K/re... are the cables you should use.

If you've just purchased two Microsoft Wireless Display Adapters, see if you can return them. (You also do NOT want one MWDA and one MDP to HDMI. )

Sorry that you have to go through exchanging hardware, but if you follow my recommendation, you should be able to use both monitors.

Hope this helps. Please DO mark as Answer if it was of assistance.

I had a feeling that I got the wrong stuff.  I will take back the one wireless adaptor - would be nice to have one to connect to our TV.

So this should work with the new one?  And I connect them both into the dock?  Ill give it a try!

    Thanks!

    Sara,

Yes, get two of those Pluggable adapters and two HDMI cables and connect both to the Dock and you should be good to go.
