the slim pen 2 not charging when connected to Surface Dup

Question

recently purchased both the Surface Duo and Slim pen 2 ... when i stick to pen to duo - it should charge / show light.

not happening. What am i missing

In order to charge Slim Pen 2, you will need a Surface Duo 2 and the Surface Duo 2 Pen Cover – Microsoft Store.

for the reviews it was saying that the pen can be charged by sticking to the outer case of the "Surface Duo"

The reviews were wrong, or were referring to the Pen Cover.
