Email Question: Selecting the best email app for both Surface Pro 4 and iPad

Email App Question: I recently purchased a Surface Pro 4 to replace my Dell Studio 7 laptop. I also use an iPad to send/retrieve my email. I use MS Outlook on my laptop and receive duplicate email on my iPad. I have to maintain (view, delete, etc) email messages on both devices, which is a pain. I want to setup the new Surface Pro 4 with an email system that is not a POP3 client based system. I want the ability to view my email on either device and then delete messages in only one place. Example: I delete an email message on the iPad and it's no longer visible on my Surface and visa versa. What is the best email system to accomplish multiple platform usage (cloud, server based, etc)?

See if TWC supports IMAP where you live. They won't support exchange.

    Start at https://www.timewarnercable.com/en/support/faqs/faqs-internet/e-mailacco/incoming-outgoing-server-addresses.html

    IMAP settings:

    Account Type: IMAP

    Incoming Mail Server: mail.twc.com

    Incoming Server –IMAP port: 143

    Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP): mail.twc.com

Outgoing Server – SMTP port: 587

Inbound & Outbound User Name: Enter full email address, for example:

    johndoe@[division].rr.com

    ******@roadrunner.com

    ******@twc.com

Inbound & Outbound Password: Email Password (same as Web Mail)

    SMTP Server Requires Authentication: Checked

the real answer depends on who your email provider is and what they offer. IMAP

or Exchange should sync fine, as opposed to POP. Microsoft accounts (outlook.com

    • hotmail.com) when set up with defaults should also sync fine.

Hi Barb - thank you so much for the quick reply. I currently use TWC with Roadrunner for our email. I will look into both IMAP and Exchange. I really value your opinion, so I have one last question for you. What's your preference? IMAP or Exchange. I heavily use my calendar and all email is for personal use given I recently retired. Thanks in advance. Larry
