    Hi Sherry Eischen,

Thank you for reaching Microsoft Community. We're sorry to know what happened to your Surface device.

I am aware that after charging your Surface device last night, the screen no longer illuminates and all you have is a black screen. Let us work on this together.

Disconnect accessories and make sure your Surface is charged.

Accessories that you’ve connected to your Surface might be preventing it from turning on.

Leave the Surface plugged in to the power supply included with the device but remove all external devices including USB drives, SD cards, or even keyboard / mouse dongles.

When your Surface is plugged in charge it for at least 15 minutes. Then press the power button to turn on your Surface. If the power connector light doesn’t turn on, or if it flashes, see Surface battery won’t charge or Surface won't run on battery.

Wake it up with keyboard shortcuts.

    1. Connect to a keyboard or use an integrated keyboard.
    2. Press the Windows logo key + Ctrl + Shift + B.

    Force a restart.

Press and hold the power button until the logo screen appears (about 20 seconds). See Force a shut down and restart your Surface for more info. The troubleshooting can be found at Surface won’t turn on or start - Microsoft Support.

Let me know how it goes.

    Kind regards,

    Lavenia
