For some reason when I turn on my Surface, it shows a gray screen and it doesn’t show the screen anymore. I tried restarting, but it does the same thing.

    Hi Fruit!

Thanks for reaching Microsoft Community. We're sorry for the inconvenience this may have caused you. We're here to help and let's work on this together.

I understand you're having issues with your Surface device. Happy to help and provide more options here.

Most common reason for this error is due to corrupt operating system and possible hardware failure on start up. To rectify this error, the best thing to do is to perform a recovery image reset on the device. This option reimages the entire device, including the partition on the hard drive. It is the most complete form of reset. Before you begin, you must have at least an empty 16GB/32GB of USB Flash drive and it must be formatted to FAT32 prior to downloading the Recovery Image. You might also need a working computer to download the recovery image file since you're Surface is no longer starting up.

To proceed, please follow the detailed instructions in Creating and using a USB recovery drive for Surface - Microsoft Support.

Please let us know with how it goes. We look forward to hear from you.

    Regards,

    RodelioP.

Hey, I created windows installation media onto a usb. Only problem is that my surface shows the gray screen again when I’m trying to boot, so I can't boot into recovery.
