Laptop not charging after power drain

I was working last night on my laptop when it showed that battery had gotten low. I plugged it in and started working again. Till then the power was fine. Shortly after,i decided to go to sleep and for some reason, switched off the power.

I didnt shut it down and some background processes were running, I'm guessing that its battery got drained in the time and now it won't charge.

I mean the charging pin glows but when i open it, the battery button in taskbar flashes a cross and the pc locks automatically.

Is it supposed to hapoen or should i i  concerned?
