New Surface Laptop 7 battery life is far from advertised 20+ hours

I've bought Surface 7th Edition Laptop 15 inch with Snapdragon® X Elite and 32Gb RAM, Model 2037.

I reinstalled Windows to have Enterprise capabilities. Install all Surface drivers and Windows updates.

The battery life I'm getting reaches 7 hours at 100% of charge with 60% dim brightness.

No other than Edge 10 tabs are running.

One of the major reasons I purchased the laptop because of advertised 20+ hours battery. Even if it's cut in half, I still don't get promised 10 hours.

Does it really work this way in a real-life scenario, or do I have a faulty battery model?

    Hello, Alex OJU.

    Welcome to Microsoft Community!

Often times there is ambiguity in how we feel about our usage, to better identify if there is a problem with your battery, we can try to generate a battery usage report:

    1. Open PowerShell:

Type “PowerShell” in the taskbar search box, then right-click “Windows PowerShell” and select “Run as administrator Run as Administrator”.

    2. Generate a battery report:

In the PowerShell window, enter the following command: powershell powercfg /batteryreport.

When executed, the system generates a battery performance report and saves it to the user folder (usually in C:\Users\your username\battery-report.html).

    3. To view the report:

Open File Explorer, navigate to your user folder, locate the battery-report.html file, and double click to open it to view the battery performance report.

The battery report generated by analyzing the report content will contain the following information:

    • Battery design capacity and full charge capacity
    • Charge cycle history
    • Battery usage time and charging history

You can share the report in the thread and I can assist you in determining if the battery is actually the problem.

I am here to support you.

    Best Regards.

    Hi,

    Thanks for the reply.

Since I reinstalled the laptop just recently I don't have much historical data, but I performed analysis from 100% to 0% and executed the report.

    Hi, Alex.

Thank you for the report, I have checked it out completely.

Based on the battery capacity, there are no issues with your Surface Laptop 7's battery.

The rate of power consumption is closely related to your usage and battery settings. If you wish to slow down your power consumption, you can refer to the following suggestions:

    Hi there,

I also seem to be having issues with my Microsoft surface laptop 7th edition 15 inch (purchased 2 days ago).

I have been only using the laptop for Figma related work. Whilst using Figma, I have 10-15 google chrome tabs open (although not being actively used), as well as ChatGPT app open with moderate use.

I charged the laptop to 100% and proceeded to use Figma for approximately 1 hour and 45 minutes - this drained the laptop from 100% to 55%. In addition to the battery failing on me, it seems to be overheating most of the time.

For reference, please see below today's battery report for the laptop.

    2024-12-2910:02:19

    18:01:29 Connected standby Battery 78 % 51,260 mWh
    18:01:30 Active Battery 78 % 51,260 mWh
    18:53:20 Connected standby Battery 55 % 36,070 mWh
    19:50:21 Active Battery 55 % 35,740 mWh
    20:32:02 Connected standby Battery 23 % 15,200 mWh
    23:44:08 Active Battery 22 % 14,710 mWh
    23:47:25 Report generated Battery 20 % 13,420 mWh

Can you please confirm if the battery is indeed faulty.

    Cheers

    James
