Maybe I am on to something... Dock manual firmware update

So, I updated to the 4/19 firmware like many of you did, but my dock problems persist.  In a last ditch effort to figure the cause since I am getting no assistance from Microsoft and my posts are getting moved into a 7 month old thread, I decided to get download the Surface Dock Update Utility to manually flash the firmware.

To my joy, it said my firmware was out of date.... meaning the updates through Windows Update apparently are not pushing the firmware changes to the dock for whatever reason.  A glimmer of hope!  Well, it was short lived, as I proceed through the process, the firmware is ready to start its update.... immediately fails.

The logs go like this:

Installed MCU firmware version: 0491C270.

Installed DP firmware version: 048B0670.

New MCU firmware version: 0491C270.

New DP firmware version: 04915A70.

Start updating DP firmware.

DP firmware update rejected. Reason=InvalidMcu

Does anyone have any experience with this tool?  Clearly the dock isn't getting all the firmware updates.. in this case the DP firmware is quite a bit behind.  It could be a big piece of this.

Thanks in advance!

    MSJ

    I am going to go test this out now on my Surface book. I will get back to you a little later with my findings but you could be on to something.

    Maybe there is away to remove all updates or firmware from the dock? im going to do some digging on this and post my findings here.

    For others reference, you can confirm that the Dock was updated or even install the update manually by following the steps in our Troubleshoot Surface Dock article.

    You will see one of these 2 screens to know if you are up to date or not:

    If the updater tool says the Dock is not running the latest firmware and then fails, try this:

    ·       Disconnect dock from Surface. Leave power connected.

    ·       Leave it alone for 10 minutes.

    ·       Reconnect dock.

    ·       Start dock updater tool again and see if it still generates error.

    If you continue to receive an error, can you export and let us know the values at:

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\WUDF\Services\SurfaceDockFwUpdate\Parameters

    Hope this helps,

    Greg

    Greg,

    Thanks, I have already tried the steps you suggested as well.  The issue persists.  I even left it off power for 3 hours.  I have tried it about 10 times now, same error.  As you requested here is my registry path results below:

    Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\WUDF\Services\SurfaceDockFwUpdate\Parameters]

    "Component10FirmwareUpdateStatus"=dword:00000005

    "Component10CurrentFwVersion"=dword:0491c270

    "Component20FirmwareUpdateStatus"=dword:00000001

    "Component20CurrentFwVersion"=dword:048b0670

    "Component10OfferFwVersion"=dword:0491c270

    "Component20OfferFwVersion"=dword:04915a70

    "Component20FirmwareUpdateStatusRejectReason"=dword:00000001

    "Component10FirmwareUpdateStatusRejectReason"=dword:00000000

    Thanks in advance!
