How to reset firmware on surface headphones?

I have the surface headphones 1 and they have been working great for me for the past 4 years. I downloaded the surface app and decided to update my headphones. Now there is no audio coming out of my headphones while connected to my phone, switch or steam deck.

On my pc the stereo option doesn't play any audio. If I have them set to hands free mode, then I can get audio again, but they sound really bad. While connected to my Ipad they work without a problem.

The firmware version I am on is 1.0.5.74.29

I tried the way on the surface support page. Pressing the power button then plugging in the usb c cable before letting go of the button. That has not worked for me. I tried calling Microsoft support but without a warranty I received no help.

Is there any other way to reset the firmware to a previous version?

    Hi Tyrell Bush,

Thank you for reaching Microsoft Community. Apologies for the inconvenience this has caused you.

Is your Windows PC running on Windows 10 or Windows 11?

May I know which device did you used in updating your Surface Headphones? Is it also your Windows PC or not? If not, kindly try using your Windows PC first in updating the headphones through the Surface app (use Update using USB option) then see if the issue persist. See: Update Surface Headphones (microsoft.com) for details.

I'm sorry but we do not have other way to reset the firmware of the Surface Headphones other than what is stated in Reset Surface Headphones (microsoft.com). Kindly try doing a factory reset instead then see if it helps.

Other thing to try also is to try running the audio troubleshooter on your Windows PC while connected to the headphones with the stero option select. See: Fix sound or audio problems in Windows (microsoft.com) and refer to step #2. Try also the other steps on the page specifically steps #1, 3, 5, 6, 7, 8 and 9.

    Hope this helps.

    Kind regards,

    Marrion
