Surface Pro won't stay connected to wireless projector.

I have a new Microsoft Surface Pro + (11th Generation intel). I was able to connect to my classroom's wireless projector on Monday, but yesterday and today it is connecting, then disconnecting after 10 seconds. I made sure my software is updated and have restarted the projector and Surface several times without any change. Any help?

    Hello Michelle,

Thank you for posting in Microsoft Community

I understand that you are having issues with your Surface that disconnects from the wireless projector after 10 seconds. You got me here and we'll definitely isolate this issue together. Before anything else, allow me to ask few questions:

    • What cables did you used in connecting your Surface Pro 7+ to the Wireless projector?
    • Have you tried using other cables in connecting the two?
    • also, please confirm if you're using a Surface Dock when connecting your Surface Pro 4 to the projector/external display?

For now, to solve the issue, let's exhaust all these steps:

    1. Run SDT by clicking this link: Surface Diagnostic Toolkit - Microsoft Apps. The said toolkit will check then report other errors then fix it and may update your device as well. Once you ran the toolkit, please follow the on-screen instructions.
    2. Download a drivers and firmware to your Surface Pro 7+ by clicking this link: Download Surface Pro 7+ Drivers and Firmware. from Official Microsoft Download Center
    3. If any case you are using a Surface Dock, I would suggest downloading a drivers and firmware to it as well. Visit this link: Download Surface Tools for IT. from Official Microsoft Download Center

You may also check this link: Connect Surface to a TV, monitor, or projector - Microsoft Support

Please let me know if this works. Hope this helps!

    Kind regards,

    Rolando S.

I have run the Surface Diagnostic and it reported no problems. I already downloaded the Surface Pro 7+ drivers and firmware from the Microsoft page- installed and restarted computer. I am using no cables to connect to projector- using Miracast. Here's the crazy part, when I first got the Surface, it connected and generally stayed connected to the projector, but for the past 2 days it will connect and then disconnect withing 20 seconds. I have tried rebooting the projector and the surface- I have tried everything and it still disconnects quickly. Incredibly frustrating.

    Hello Michelle

Thank you so much for your response and for letting me know that issue still persists. I do appreciate you clarifying that you are using a Miracast. I totally understand what you feel right now and we're here to assist you.

Since the issue still persists to happen, can we try these steps below and let me know if these works:

    1. Make sure both devices are connected to a same Wi-Fi network.
    2. Try to do a network reset by going to Settings >> Network & Internet >> Status >> Network Reset.
    3. If you have other Wi-fi network, try to connect the devices and let's see if it still has the same issue.

Please give me a response if issue persists after trying the steps. Hope that helps!

    Regards,

    Rolando S.

Tried all your suggestions. Surface still connects to projector, then is disconnected within 20-30 s. My other devices do not have this issue. It is only this Surface, bought new just a week ago for this exclusive purpose of projecting my notes and being able to write on the screen. So many hours wasted...

    Hello Michelle

Thank you so much for your response and again for letting me know what happened. I apologize for the inconvenience that this caused you, I know this is not the experience you want with Microsoft. I totally understand what you feel right now, and I won't leave you hanging in here, I am willing to help you get this resolved.

Please allow me to ask further questions:

    • May I know what's the driver version of your network adapter? You can check it by going to device manager >> network adapter >> driver version is under the network adapter.
    • Is there an Anti-virus installed on your Surface? If yes, please try disabling it and see if there are any changes.

Here are some troubleshooting steps that you may try:

    1. Try to reinstall the Wi-fi driver by going to device manager >> network adapter >> right click the driver under network adapter >> select Uninstall >> Uninstall >> Restart.
    2. Try to roll back the driver by going to device manager >> network adapter >> right click the driver under network adapter >> select properties >> choose Roll Back driver >> Restart.

Please let me know if this works for you.

    Kind regards,

    Rolando S.
