So what exactly is your problem? Defender is disabled once you install another antivirus.
doesn't look like you've had issues, you're talking philosophy here :)
This browser is no longer supported.
Upgrade to Microsoft Edge to take advantage of the latest features, security updates, and technical support.
Without an anti-virus like SEP (latest 64-bit client available 4/2013), an enormous burden is placed on Windows Defender - especially given the multiple permanent holes that all the 'apps' built into the mosaic screen open in the firewall router.
What is the marketing strategy behind this?
And is only Marketing behind this?
Is this the downfall of that 'free thing about the Internet'?
Why does my machine now appear to have another layer of security beyond administrator (after all previous patches have been inserted to 4/25/2013, 20:59 eastern)?
Experimental attempts to disable Defender now yield inaccessible screens.
So now I appear to be outside a traditional LAN security stance with this Surface Pro.
Is there a new paradigm?

Thanks for the grounding levity.
(The Next Coffee is on me.)
But it is still important to not rely on unproven technology (defender) when the machine itself opens up so many holes in a firewalled system to 'viscerally' expound on the glories of 'the next computing' paradigm that this thing is supposed to represent.
My machine is behind a UTM, so even getting MSOFF downloaded and installed was a difficult venture.
UTMs I would guess, are where all consumer security router technologies are headed.
There is no mistake, SEP client (the latest Symantec client version) will *not* install on this Surface Pro.
It is "not compatible".
I come from the faction that does not think that "I have nothing to hide...", but from the Guys who refuse to abdicate my right to privacy.
Am I shoveling sand against the tide?
