Can the Surface Dock (Brick type for Surface Pro 3 and 4) be powered from 12 volts?
I would like to use it on my boat and the installation would be in a dry location below decks. I recognize that I would need a cable to connect the 12V boat outlet to the power input on the side of the docking station instead of the AC power supply.
Here is the intended use:
Docking station connected to boat 12V power with docking station output connected to Surface Pro 4 (I5, 8gb memory, 256gb storage)
Docking station ethernet connected to router on boat for internet connectivity
Docking station USB port connected to RF dongle for keyboard and mouse
Docking station USB port connected to Garmin GND10 for boat navigation and sensor data
Docking station display port connected to external monitor via HDMI
Using the docking station would be ideal because I can mount the Surface Pro 4 with a Ram Mount universal X grip so it is secure when the boat is in motion. The single cable to the Surface Pro 4 and the Ram mount would allow me to easily connect and disconnect
the Surface Pro when I wanted to, but leave all the other cables connected.
