Why isn't the tip of my surface slim 2 pen working or writing?

I have a microsoft surface pro with the detachable keyword and the surface slim pen 2 which just charges in the keyboard. My eraser will work but the tip will not. I tried buying new tips form amazon because I thought maybe the tip was just too worn but it's still not working. I am really confused, I've tried restarting my computer as well as reconnecting to the pen.

    Hello Kacie,

Thank you for posting in Microsoft Community.

I'm sorry to hear that you're experiencing issues with your Surface Slim Pen 2 that won't write. I am here to help and let us work on this together.

    • Is there a chance for you to test the pen to another Surface device? Or test another slim pen on your Surface?

Here are some troubleshooting steps that you can try:

    1. Check the battery level of your pen. Make sure it's fully charged.
    2. Try resetting your pen. Press and hold the top button of your pen for 7 seconds until the LED light flashes white, then release the button.

Given that you have already attempted to change the pen tip, it is possible that the pen is experiencing a hardware malfunction.

I hope to hear back from you.

    Kind regards,

    Lavenia

    Hi!

Thank you for replying! I can definitely try to find someone with another surface or find a different pen. I've reset the pen a couple of times and the battery is at 90% right now.

    Thanks!

You're welcome. I hope you can find someone that you can test the pen with or test a different pen so we can isolate the issue.

I hope to hear back from you soon.

    Hi!

I got someone to let me test out my pen on their surface pro and then we tried their pen on my computer. My pen did not work on theirs and their pen did work on mine. So ultimately I think my pen is malfunctioning, I'm really confused why because I have had this computer for a little over a year. The two buttons work on it, it's just the writing or tip part of the pen.

    Thanks!

knowing that the pen also not working on other Surface and using another pen works on your Surface. Its indeed more likely that your Surface slim pen has suffered a hardware failure. Your pen needs a replacement.
