Static from monitor speakers when connected to Microdoft Surface docking station

I recently purchased a docking station for my Surface Pro along with an LG monitor with an HDMI to miniDisplay cable adapter.  When the monitor is conected directly to the Surface everything is fine.  However, when it is connected through the docking station the monitor makes screeching static sounds through its built in speakers.  Is there a solution to this?  Is there something wrong with the hardware?

Thanks

    Hi Ethan,

Running the audio troubleshooter might be able to help resolve the issue. To run the troubleshooter, select the Start  button, type Troubleshoot, and then select Troubleshootfrom the list of results. Select Playing Audio > Run the troubleshooter.

Try to turn off Audio Enhancements. To do this, follow these steps:

    1. Go to Start , enter Sound, and select Sound Control Panelfrom the list of results.
    2. On the Playbacktab, right-click (or press and hold) the Default Deviceand select Properties.
    3. On the Enhancementstab, select theDisable all enhancementscheck box and try to play your audio device.
    4. If that doesn't work, select Canceland, on the Playbacktab, select another default device (if you have one), select the Disable all enhancements check box, and try to play audio again. Do this for each default device.

You can also try to connect another monitor. This will help you determine if this is a software or hardware issue.

Let us know if you need further assistance.

Thank you.  I tried these fixes and they did not work.  All enhancements are off and the speakers still make a static sound.  When I tried another monitor, the problem wasn't audio but rather video.  The monitor worked fine connected directly to the Surface, but there was no picture when connected through the docking station.

I read that it is possible a DVI to miniDisplay "Active" cable may solve the problem so I ordered one.  I am very disappointed as I purchased the Surface because I intended to also convert it to desktop use via a dock.  Is it possible this particular dock is faulty?  It seems like the monitor isn't the problem.

    Thanks

    Hi Ethan,

I would like to know if you already updated your Surface Dock to the latest firmware update? In case if not simply got to this link to update your Surface Dock.

    Update your Surface Dock

once done updating it will require you to reboot your device. And strongly suggest to remove and re-attach all of the cables/connectors before turning on the device and surface dock. If it's still doing the same thing please call Surface Tech Support for added assistance.

    Thanks
