Surface Pro 8 Charger light flashing

I just bought a brand new Surface Pro 8. I noticed then that the charger doesn't charge it. The light on the charger keeps flashing every second. I ignored it for a moment as I thought I need to get used to it. Anyway, it charges fine with the USBC. Later I noticed that it charges intermittently; sometimes it does, sometimes it does not. Does not appear to follow any pattern.

Within a week, 1 of the USBC ports doesn't work. I sent it in to be replaced. Recevied the replacement almost a week later and noticed the charger still doesn't charge. USBC does. Followed all the steps in the following articles. Didn't work. Sent the charger to be replaced.

Today I received a new charger. IT STILL BLINKS AND DOES NOT CHARGE!

I apologise but saying this is highly frustrating is an understatement. These devices are top of the line and worth more than similar laptop/tablets from other vendors. WHAT DO I NEED TO DO TO GET A SURFACE PRO THAT WORKS PROPERLY. EACH TIME I SENT IT AWAY, I DON'T GET TO USE IT FOR A WEEK OR 2. WHAT'S THE POINT OF BUYING THE DEVICE IF I DON'T GET TO USE IT?!

    Hi AlvinGoh,

Thank you for reaching Microsoft Community. I understand that you are having issues with your Surface Pro 8 where you are unable to charge it and the LED on the charger keeps on flashing. I understand also how inconvenient this experience is having to replace the device and power supply leaving you unable to use the device for several days or weeks and you should not be having these kinds of issues on an expensive device.

Flashing LED on the power supply means a defective power supply or loose connection. However, based on the information you provided, considering that you have already tried some troubleshooting steps from Microsoft's support articles and since the issue persists even after replacing the charger, we can try some additional steps to isolate the problem.

First, let's check if the issue is with the Surface Pro 8 itself. Please follow these steps:

    1. Disconnect the charger from the Surface Pro 8.
    2. Power off the Surface Pro 8.
    3. Press and hold the Volume Up button and the Power button at the same time for 15 seconds.
    4. Release both buttons, wait for 10 seconds, and then press the Power button to turn on the Surface Pro 8.
    5. Once the Surface Pro 8 is turned on, connect the charger to it and check if it charges.

If issue persists, try also to change the orientation of the power connector by turning 180 degrees the connector that attaches to the side of the Surface and plug it on a different position.

Additionally, run the Surface Diagnostic Toolkit on the device while 'the power supply is connected to run some system checks and repairs then see how it goes. See: Fix common Surface problems using the Surface app and Surface Diagnostic Toolkit - Microsoft Support

If still the issue persists, I'm sorry but we may have to submit the device for repair again. I understand that this is a very hassle experience already having to replace the device or power supply multiple times. I would recommend reaching out to our live support so you could check for other options available when it comes to service and for further assistance since this is already outside of our support boundaries here in the Community as we do not have the tools needed for this. You can reach our live support through these steps:

    1. Go to Contact Us - Microsoft Support
    2. Choose how you would like to get support for your Surface device.
    3. Type in the problem you need help with.
    4. Look at any available solutions offered and select Contact Support.

In case of difficulties in reaching our live support, you can check this forum article for a more detailed guide in reaching our live support: How to get Phone and Chat Support (for Surface Home/Consumer - Microsoft Community

    Kind regards,

I've tried all the steps that can be found online by Microsoft and even searched and tried solutions found in this forum for other users. None of the above steps worked.

I have already logged a request and sent it off.

    I am not happy that:

    1. I need to keep sending it off. This wastes time. Why isn't there a place in Singapore I can walk in to to get it diagnosed? Why is there no advance replacement for cases like mine?
    2. The quality of Surface devices; why does a brand new Surface Pro 8 have issues in the first place? I wasted a lot of time performing all the troubleshooting steps, searching for other steps. Trying to find support. Wiping my data. Reinstalling the device. Etc. And I did it 3 times is the icing on the cake.
    3. I had to deal with 3 helpdesks when I called; Surface support, technical support, sales support. Sales support is basically the only one who can decide to replace my SP with a brand new one. What with all my problems in the first 3 months of using my SP, all the support should have the call to replace my SP with a brand new one rather than repair or replace with a refurbished one.

    Hi AlvinGoh,

Thank you for the response. I'm sorry to hear that you had to send off the device for service again.

I understand that this is not really a convenient experience especially considering that the device is new. You feedback are duly noted but we do not have any details we could share on this especially on the availability of advanced exchange, why there is no walk-in center in Singapore and the option for a brand-new replacement with the support channels.

For the quality of the Surface devices though, the Surface was meticulously manufactured. I'm not sure as to why you experience the same charging issue on multiple units already, but this is duly noted.

Thank you also for spending time here with us in the Community.

    Kind regards,

    Marrion
