surface pro chargers not lighting up multiple devices showing same issue

I have problems with multiple chargers and multiple laptops all suddenly showing same issue where light is not coming on for the charger. Batteries are now very dead, so that may be issue.

Interesting problem, as I am currently seeing this with all 3 of my surface pro laptops (2 4 pro, 1 7 pro). Now there are dead, and no light on power supply.

purchased brand new 127W power supply (microsoft branded) and tested with same results, no light on any laptop. USB port is definately providing power to USB device (just used to check).

Interesting enough the 7 pro does appear to be charging via USB-C currently pulling 56.2 watts.

However this does not help the 4 pro's as they have no USB-C port.

What is going on, there is no way that all three of these laptops all stop working at the same time due to hardware issues!

    Hi tserreyn!

Thanks for reaching Microsoft Community. We're here to help and let's work on this together.

I understand you're having issues with your Surface device. Happy to help and provide more options here.

Most common reason for this issue can be caused by a corrupted or outdated operating system. Please follow suggested troubleshooting steps below:

Before considering any troubleshooting options, please first make sure your device is up to date. To check for updates, just follow these steps:

Start> Settings> Update & Security> Windows Update> then check for updates and install any available updates.

Run Surface Diagnostics Toolkit and complete task here Fix common Surface problems using the Surface app and Surface Diagnostic Toolkit - Microsoft Support.

Please try to wipe off the charging ports with clean dry cloth and see if it helps.

After performing steps above, force your device to shut down and restart. Press and hold power button for 20seconds, wait for the Windows logo to appear, once it does, release the button and wait for your Surface device to restart.

Please let us know how it goes. We look forward to hearing from you.

    Greetings,

    RodelioP.

    Hi tserreyn!

Thanks for getting back to us!

I understand how frustrating this can be, if the troubleshooting above did not help. Could you please try to update your drivers and firmware manually. Please see through this link Download drivers and firmware for Surface - Microsoft Support on how to.

If that does not resolve the issue still, then I would suggest you perform a recovery image reset. This option reimages the entire device, including the partition on the hard drive. It is the most complete form of reset. Before you begin, you must have at least an empty 16GB/32GB of USB Flash drive and it must be formatted to FAT32 prior to downloading the Recovery Image. Please have your files back up as well.

To proceed, please follow the detailed instructions in Creating and using a USB recovery drive for Surface - Microsoft Support.

Please let us know with how it goes. We look forward to hearing from you.

    Regards,

    RodelioP.

Just a FYI, all devices charge with a. On Microsoft charger using a USB-c to surface charging adapter.

The advice to completely wipe and rebuild a system is counter intuitive and a task that should not be required for a hardware issue.

I will take it under advisement, but have now reported issue.

If there is a driver issue it would be because Microsoft has released a bad driver. It’s not like a Microsoft branded laptop has third party drivers.
