Surface Laptop headphone volume too low

When listening through headphones, the volume doesn't get as loud as it should even at 100%.

The same headphones on my desktop computer also running Windows 10 is much louder.

There is unfortunately no "Boost" option is the sound settings to get it higher than 100%.

Any ideas of how to get it louder?

    Hello Fahad Al-Riyami,

We do indeed want to ensure that sound is being played back properly through your audio devices from our Surface Laptop. I currently am using some Skullcandy Hesh2.0 headphones with the original audio-jack cable they came with, as well as some basic ear-bud headphones for testing this. We've found that at 100% volume on the Surface Laptop as well as 100% in any music/video/audio playback software, while holding the Skullcandy headphones about 2-3 feet away, is very audible. Also it's almost too loud at 100% using the ear-buds to keep in ears comfortably.

Just to make sure, the audio is turned up within the software being used for audio playback, and not 100% in Windows only, correct? It would also help to know what you are attempting to listen to (Groove Music, Pandora, YouTube etc...).

There are also some applications/features that may be available to install for your headphones depending on the branding or make/model. What kind of headphones are being used with your Surface Laptop at this time?

    Thank you~

    Mason L.

I'm using the Microsoft Comfort Headset (WH-308), and using VLC with its volume set to 125%. But it definitely doesn't sound like full volume compared to using the same headset on my desktop PC.

I thought that this might be related to me running Windows 10 Insider builds. My Surface is on the latest Fast Ring build while my desktop is always on the Release Preview ring. Though the low volume has been as issue since I got the Surface Laptop with Windows 10 S installed.

    Hello Fahad Al-Riyami,

This is indeed good to know, and as our testing has been performed on multiple Surface Laptops (both running Windows 10S, and Windows 10 Pro) and all have held to the same results previously posted.

If you are currently running the preview it would be best to communicate in the Windows 10 Insider forums to get the best support for the newly released updates, as some things may not function as we expect them to when performing the standard troubleshooting steps.

If you would like to attempt to verify if this would be something hardware related with the Surface Laptop, have you tested any other headphone's, or attempted reinstalling Windows? If you would like some instructions to follow for reinstalling Windows please follow this link here.

    Thank you~
