Surface pro 6 ssd read only

I got a surface pro 6 new a few years ago that has had very little use.

About a fortnight ago I done a windows update and shut down and didn't touch it for over a week. When I tried to turn it back on it would go into a blue screen loop and not boot into windows.

I tried countless amounts of options to recover it but all failed.

The ssd is showing as read only and nothing can be changed for a fresh windows install.

As a last resort I have used the surface data eraser hoping it would remove everything and I could hopefully clear the read only status in diskpart but to no prevail.

Does anybody have any other ideas to force it to change or is it pretty much a throw away.

Thanks

    Hello Shane1311au,

    Welcome to Microsoft Community.

Sorry to learn that your Surface Pro 6 is experiencing this issue.

I've noticed that you seem to have tried quite a bit and failed, and if your SSD appears read-only at this point, allow me to recommend that you create a USB recovery image dedicated to the Surface Pro 6 and try to restore your Surface Pro 6 with it.

You will need to find a separate computer to use for the restoration image creation, detailed instructions are in the following links:

Creating and using a USB recovery drive for Surface - Microsoft Support ****

Please refer to the video instructions in the link carefully and follow them step by step.

If you are able to follow the correct instructions and go to this page (At 2:16 of the video):

Select "Full clean the drive" to try to clear the SSD's read-only state and restore your Surface Pro6 to factory status with the Surface Recovery image.

But if you have tried all of this, or followed the correct steps, and still can't do it, this means that neither you nor I can do anything with this Surface Pro 6 anymore, we recommend that you contact Surface real-time Support directly, they can help you create a repair order. Send this device to the Surface support team for inspection and repair:

    1. Use your personal Microsoft account (not your organization account) to access the following links:

    Contact - Microsoft Support

    1. Type Surface, press Enter, and click "Contact Support" at the bottom:

    1. Select Technical Support and select the device model you are currently using in Produce family, then click Confrim:

However, please allow me to kindly remind you that currently we have received feedback from some users that they encountered errors when contacting through Chat support, and we are investigating this situation. Therefore, if you cannot contact the Surface technical support team through Chat support, please try Phone support and leave your contact information according to the guidelines. Surface support will call you back.

I wish you all the best.

    Best Regards,

Mitchell | Microsoft Community Support Specialist
