I have had this problem for several days and have been following the topic on the community but nothing was helping. So last night I started uninstalling updates Removed the latest that was a security update. When I went back to uninstall the next one There was a new update (check for update said I was up to date.

Next thing I know the cursor re appeared and I had my keyboard and touchpad back. After uninstalling the mouse a couple of times I got it to connect.

8 hours later it is still all good.

It is good we have the community

Pity MS won't admit when they have a problem of their making and advise people that they are working on it. Tell the support folks what they are doing so we don't try wiping the hard drive I think it is called refresh for the umpteenth time.

Hope this helps the rest of the people with this issue.

Yup - something must have been amiss with Security Update KB4074588 (OS Build 16299.248) or its install.  First time I've think ever had a real problem with my Surface Book that I've traced back to a security update.

There is more info in the Windows forum at Recent update causing USB mouse/keyboards to stop working

To uninstall the update. Open Control Panel > Program and Features > View installed updates. Tap and hold the update list, then select Uninstall.

To prevent receiving the update again. Open Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update > Advanced options. Set Pause Update to On.

    Update 3/5: There is now a fix - March 5, 2018—KB4090913 (OS Build 16299.251)

    • Addresses an issue in which some USB devices and onboard devices, such as a built-in laptop camera, keyboard, or mouse, stop working. This may occur when the Windows Update servicing stack incorrectly skips installing the newer version of some critical drivers in the cumulative update and uninstalls the currently active drivers during maintenance.

I cannot even get into the thing. It is stuck on the lock screen. No input is working, mouse not working, keyboard not working, touchscreen not working. All I can do is push the button to turn it off and on again.

I most have been holding my face the right way when I uninstalled the security update which hasn't come back.

Before I fixed things I could go into tablet mode so I had a keyboard on screen and could get a virtual touchpad that all worked though very clunky. This let me get access to do the uninstall.

    Hope this helps
