How do I prevent the news from appearing when I slide across from the left on my Surface go 3?

Every time I move my finger across the screen from left to right when my surface go 3 is in tablet mode it makes a new tab appear. I really do not want this. I have tried uninstalling widgets deselecting them in taskbar settings. I have basically looked through every setting possible. I really would like to be able to stop it appearing. It is driving me insane. At the very least can someone tell me how to disable the news appearing. The overall widgets I don't mind. The weather doesn't bother me but I cannot deal with hearing about horrific world events every time I try to scroll across on a word document.

    Hi MM_2311,

Thank you for posting in Microsoft Community.

I am aware that the news widget on your Surface Go 3 is giving you difficulties. I know you've tried removing widgets and deselecting them in taskbar settings, but when your Surface Go 3 is in tablet mode, the news widget still pops up whenever you swipe your finger over the screen from left to right. I'll try to be of assistance to you in this and let us work on this together.

Here are some steps you can follow to disable the news widget:

You may uninstall Microsoft News from the app list.

    1. Open Settings > Apps > Apps & features.
    2. Inside the field “App list”, type Microsoft News.
    3. Once it’s displayed, click its three-point menu.
    4. Select Uninstall.
    5. Click again Uninstall for confirmation.
    6. Close Settings.
    7. Restart Windows

Alternatively, you may also the steps below:

    1. Swipe from the right edge of the screen to open the Action Center.
    2. Tap on Tablet mode to turn it off.
    3. Swipe from the left edge of the screen to open the Task View.
    4. Tap and hold on the News and interest's widget.
    5. Select Remove.

If you don’t want to disable tablet mode, you can try disabling the “Optimize taskbar for touch interactions when this device is used as a tablet” option by following these steps:

    1. Right-click on an empty area of the taskbar.
    2. Select Taskbar settings.
    3. Scroll down to the Taskbar behaviors section.
    4. Turn off the “Optimize taskbar for touch interactions when this device is used as a tablet” option.

I hope the provided solution works for you. I look forward to hearing from you.

    Kind regards,

    Lavenia
