surface 3 minidisplay adapter

I have a surface 3 and would like to connect to an external monitor. The display cable I have is a mini display port cable that does not fit into the port. I do  not think I have the right minidisplay port cable. Are there different types ? i would be grateful for a solution to this problem.   It is a type of thunderbolt cable that does not fit

    Hi, mohamedalirahemtulla!

    Thanks for reaching out to Microsoft Community and posting your inquiry.

    I checked the website you shared and it shows it is an Ivanky mini DisplayPort to HDMI adapter. 

    Please check the image below of the mini DisplayPort end of the adapter.

    If that's the one you have,  make sure that the marked side is positioned under when plugging to the Surface 3's Mini DisplayPort when the device's screen is facing up.

    Please see image below of the location of the Surface 3. 

    If it doesn't fit, please check for any debris on the port or adapter that may be blocking the connection.

    Good morning , thank you so much for making the effort .

    The port on my surface 3 looks like ![](https://filestore.community.support.microsoft.com/api/images/c670dc11-60a8-4bec-a017-3803df207fcc?upload=true) 

    the male pin that inserts into the cable is not in the middle to accommodate the Female end of  Ivanki cable. In the picture above the male pin is almost at the top. I have a similar cable to the Ivanki it does not fit.
