I get the following in device manager when I insert a sd card (both inserting from boot or after) :

This device cannot start. (Code 10)

{Drive Not Ready}

The drive is not ready for use; its door may be open. Please check drive %hs and make sure that a disk is inserted and that the drive door is closed.

I have formatted it using SD Formatter from my desktop pc - help

    Hi Martin and ENRIQUEMORALESNARVAEZ,

I'm very sorry to hear that neither a refresh nor a reset did not fix your problem with the error code.

In a situation like this, I'd recommend contacting support as they will be able to assist you better.

    Hi Martin,

    Thank you for your response.

A refresh would revert your device back to the beginning of Windows 8.1, and although you will need to get all the updates (including the one that you suspect might have caused the issue) but I believe it's worth a try. If you are unable to perform with the USB recovery image, could you do a refresh from within Windows?

If it doesn't work, you may want to consider a reset (and make sure to back up all of your data before performing this)

Let me know if it worked!

    Hi ChristineMLawrence.

I am sorry to hear you are having issues with your SD card. I'd like to follow up Sarah923's post and suggest you check the type of card against the Compatibility Center. You may also want to verify that your Surface has installed any and all updates available.

Please let us know if you have any luck!

    To check for updates:

    1. Open PC Settings, by swiping in from right edge (or, if using a mouse, point to upper-right corner of screen)
    2. Tap or click Settings
    3. Tap or click Change PC settings
    4. Under PC settings, tap or click Windows Update
    5. Tap or click Check for Updates
