I recently purchased a surface pro from an estimate sale and was wondering if I can do a factory reset on it? The kicker is I think it's got BIOS security installed. Figured it doesn't hurt to ask.

I recently purchased a surface pro from an estimate sale and was wondering if I can do a factory reset? I think it's got BIOS security software installed and I have no idea what I'm doing. LoL

If it's trash then o well, just figured it's a nice device and worth saving.

    Hello Daniel,

    Welcome to Microsoft Community.

    Of course you can.

The complete process to fully restore the Surface Pro 8 to factory Settings is here:

Creating and using a USB recovery drive for Surface - Microsoft Support

Surface series devices are special, you need to download the appropriate recovery image using the serial number:

Surface Recovery Image Download - Microsoft Support ****

Then create a Surface-specific USB recovery drive with the help of the recovery image, and eventually use that recovery drive to restore your Surface to factory Settings. The first link has a complete video guide and text steps, follow the process step by step.

Once the factory Settings are restored, the Surface will not contain any third-party software.

    Best Regards,

Mitchell | Microsoft Community Support Specialist
