Surface Laptop 7th Edition won't output in 4K

Hello

I received my brand new SL7 today, upgrading from the 3, have connected it to my Acer XV282KKV monitor using a type c to type c cable, but it won't allow me to output in 4K resolution. I have tried several online solutions but none of them seem to be working.

It currently only allows me to output at maximum 2560x1440 instead of the recommended 5120x2160, or 3840x2160 (which works perfectly on SL3), both of which display an "input not supported" message on the monitor. I don't have this issue with the SL3 so don't think it's the monitor or the cable.

All drivers and updates are up to date.

    Hi Soban,

    Welcome to Microsoft Community.

I'm Hahn and I'm here to help you with your concern.

I'm sorry to hear that you're having trouble outputting in 4K resolution with your Surface Laptop 7. Have you tried adjusting the refresh rate settings on your Surface Laptop 7 to ensure that the external monitor is set to output at 4K resolution? Here's how:

    1. Right-click on the desktop and select "Display settings".
    2. Scroll down to the "Advance Display" section and click on "Choose a refresh rate".
    3. Select “60Hz” from the drop-down menu.

Because the maximum refresh rate of Surface Laptop 7 is 120Hz, and the external display has to output 5120*2880 resolution, which is only 60Hz. Troubleshoot connecting Surface to an external display - Microsoft Support

I hope this helps. If there is anything not clear, please do not hesitate to let me know.

    Your Sincerely

The short answer is the SL3 and SL7 have different CPU chips.

Intel i5 chips had graphics capability that supports ultra wide resolution where as Snapdragon only supports 2x 4K.
