Surface Pro 8 wakes up from sleep when it shouldn't

This is extremely frustrating.

I put my surface pro in my backpack fully charged and when I get it back the battery has been drained to 50%.

The light of the screen even wakes me up in the middle of the night for no reason.

The Power Management tab that allowed us previously to disable "Allow This Device to Wake the Computer" is hard to find in the Device Manager and it seems to have no effect.

EDIT: It doesn't seem to wake up alone anymore, but there is no way to disable the signature keyboard lid, keyboard and Bluetooth mouse waking it up.

    Hi Phemios,

Thank you for reaching Microsoft Community. I'm sorry to hear about the power issues that you are experiencing on your Surface Pro 8.

The Surface Pro 8 uses the Surface Unified Extensible Firmware Interface (UEFI) instead of the Legacy BIOS. See: How to use Surface UEFI (microsoft.com).

When you left the device on your backpack, was it fully Shutdown or it was just on Sleep mode?

The Surface should not turn on by itself with just a move of the mouse when it is on Shutdown. However, it is possible to wake the Surface by moving the touchpad or by pressing a key when it is in Sleep mode. Try checking the Power Management tab on the Bluetooth Low Energy GATT compliant HID device driver under Human Interface devices in Device Manager.

Please try checking also in Control Panel > Hardware and sound > Power options. Click Change advanced power settings option. On the Advanced Power Options window, kindly take a screenshot of it and share it with us here.

For now, kindly run these steps on your Surface Pro 8 then observe if the issue persist:

    1: Run Surface Diagnostic Toolkit

See: Fix common Surface problems using the Surface Diagnostic Toolkit (microsoft.com)

    2: Check for Windows Update

Go to Windows Settings > Update & Security and select Check for updates

Make sure all updates need are installed including Optional updates

    3: Update drivers and firmware

Check what is the current OS Build of your Windows version by going to Settings > System > About

Go to Download driver and firmware for Surface, choose Surface Pro

Then click the link next to Surface Pro 8 then click Download on the next page.

Choose the .msi file that matches your current OS Build and click Next.

After downloading, run and install the .msi then Restart.

4: Run System File Checker Tool

See: Using System File Checker in Windows (microsoft.com)

    Kind regards,

    Marrion

Thank you for your answer. The system is up to date and I have downloaded the last firmware for the Surface Pro 8 and Windows 10.

Even with the settings shown in the screenshots below, the keyboard, the mouse and the keyboard cover (open/close) wake up the computer.

The mouse is not critical because I can switch it off, the keyboard can press a key accidentally very easily and a slight misalignment of the keyboard cover wakes up the computer (I imagine that this is why it always wakes up in my backpack). I really need to disable the wake up function for the latter two ones (which belong to the signature keyboard).

Here you have my settings in the Devices Manager:

And my Advanced Power settings (In my previous computer I could see all the devices here but in the Surface Pro it only shows me Desktop, Sleep, Display and Battery):

    Hi Phemios,

Thank you for the response and details provided. Please try first to reset all power plans of the device by running the command below on an elevated Command Prompt (Admin):

    powercfg -restoredefaultschemes

After running the command, restart the Surface then proceed to these steps below:

1: Disable this device to wake the computer

    Open Device Manager

Navigate to the mouse and keyboard drivers and disable the setting

    2: Disable wake timers

Go to the Power Options window

Expand Sleep and check if Allow wake timers is now listed

If yes, set it to Disable

After doing those steps please check if still the device wakes up on its own in the middle of the night. If yes, may I know what are the accessories or peripherals connected to the device?

    Kind regards,

    Marrion
