Black Border with Reduced Resolution

I have been running my Surface Pro at 1366x768 for a few days with no problems.  Yesterday for no explainable reason I now have a black border around the screen.  If I change back to native resolution it fills the whole screen, but using a reduced resolution the screen just shrinks with a black border around it.  I need the lower resolution to be able to effectively use remote desktop.  Is there a fix for this issue?

Thanks.

    You can try using the Intel Media Control Panel program that installs when you install the full Intel HD Graphics 4000 package. It has some scaling options that may alleviate the issue. You can get that here.

    **Poster states that this fixed the issue:

    1. Right click the Intel icon near the time on the desktop that appears after the installation and reboot
    2. Choose Graphics Options->Panel Fit->Scale Full Screen.

    Let us know if this fixes the issue and mark this as answered if it did!

    Thanks for the suggestion.  I installed the HD Graphics 4000 package.  It did not change the experience.  I still get the black border with the shrunk screen when choosing 1366x768.

    Did you try using the Intel Graphics and Media Control Panel program to alter the scaling effects? If you just installed the package, that alone may not fix it. You may need to alter the scaling in the program which should appear in the Metro screen.

    Actually, instead (as 1366x768 cuts of the OK and Apply buttons), right click the icon near the time that appears after the installation and reboot.

    Choose Graphics Options->Panel Fit->Scale Full Screen.

    Ah - got it.  Yes, that did the trick.  I chose panel fit with 1366x768 selected and it seems to be working fine now.

    Thanks very much!

    Seems odd that I have to go through this process and it is not automatically scaled to fit.  I wonder if this will this be "fixed" in an update.

    Cheers.

    If there is an update to fix it, it will be a driver update. Windows has always been a bit temperamental with regards to scaling on external monitors/TVs and in the way you are using it as well. In many ways, the Surface Pro seems rushed and this is just one more thing that was not put through the QA cycle.
