My touchscreen has stopped working since the last update.
The driver HID-Compliant Touch Screen is up-to-date, I checked.
Dialog box says to reconnect Hardware Device. I'm using a Surface RT running 8.1. Not sure how to accomplish that.

Tried each step and it didn't work.
From Troubleshoot method, it found this. I selected for it to repair the problem, and it didn't.
When I went back to the device manager, I wasn't able to uninstall the driver for the touchscreen, but I checked for updates, and it said it was up-to-date.
But, in the device manager, the driver I2C HIID appeared twice. One had the CAUTION/Yellow Triangle, so I uninstalled it.
Then, I repeated the steps outlined by Isha again. And it still didn't work.
Now, it appears that the HIID-Compliant TOUCH SCREEN driver isn't listed, but I2C HIID is listed twice again. I am positive that the hidden ones are being displayed. (View-Show Hidden Device is on)
Thank you for getting back to me.
Did you restart your device? When ever you install or uninstall something on your computer, you need to restart the system for the changes to take effect.
Yes.
When I run troubleshooting again, I get the same error as before, I try to apply the fix and get this:
And this is the device manager afterwards: The I2C HIID is duplicated, where one is cautioned. I don't know if it was always duplicated because in my original screenshot, I was focused on the touch screen device/driver, which is now missing.
Should I try uninstalling both I2C HIID Devices? I have only tried uninstalling the one with the yellow triangle/caution sign. I'm hesitant to try both.
I suggest that you try to uninstall them both then restart your device. They will be automatically reinstalled after the restart.
