Slim pen 2 is not recognised by the surface pro type cover and doesn't charge

I have had my surface pro 8 and its type cover for two years now but I recently purchased a slim pen 2. Out of the box, the pen is not recognised by the type cover as I cannot wake it up by placing it in the charging area. It has been a few days and the pen's battery is almost zero, but it still doesn't charge when placed in the type cover's charging area nor does it realised that it has been removed when a do so. I have tried cleaning the contacts between the type surface and the surface pro and searching for updates with the pen and type cover connected but none is shown. When using surface diagnostic toolkit, it showed that my windows update surface has a problem. But after fixing it and rerunning the toolkit the same problem showed up. Lastly, I have also tried running the windows update trouble shooter but it says something is preventing it from running. Does anyone know what caused this and what I can do to solve it?

    Hello,

Thank you for reaching out to Microsoft Support.

I am aware that you're experiencing issues with your Slim Pen 2 and Surface Pro Type Cover. Based on the information you provided, it seems that you have already tried some troubleshooting steps. However, I would like to ask a few more questions to better understand the issue.

    • Firstly, have you tried charging the Slim Pen 2 with the USB-C charging cable? If not, please try charging the pen using the cable and see if it charges. Or try charging the pen to another Surface pro type cover and see if problem persists.
    • Secondly, you mentioned that the Surface Diagnostic Toolkit showed that your Windows update has a problem. I would recommend running the Windows Update troubleshooter again and checking if any third-party antivirus or firewall software is blocking the update process.
    • Would you mind sharing a screenshot of the error?
    • What build version of Windows your device is currently running?

Testing the pen to charge with another charging accessory would help us determine if the problem is with the pen or the charging base on the keyboard itself.

For troubleshooting guide, see Fix problems with charging Surface Slim Pen - Microsoft Support.

    Kind regards,

    Lavenia

From what I found online, I believe this to be my build version

Thank you for your reply. I thought the surface pro keyboard is enough to charge the pen, and I don't know anyone with a surface pro keyboard, so I do not have a different way of charging the pen for now. After disabling my third-part antivirus and re-running the surface diagnostic toolkit, I was informed to do a 137GB update that finished in two minutes, this did not solve my issue however. The troubleshooter for the windows update surface is also working now, but that and the toolkit both mentioned an unfixed issue which are shown in the screenshots attached.
