After disconnecting power cord laptop book 2 will not boot

I have been working on a Surface laptop book 2 for some time. I was able to get Windows 10 installed and then Windows 11 upgrade. I found out that when connected to the power cord all the time, the laptop will boot up to windows just fine after being shutdown. Once I disconnect the power cord and wait about 15 minutes and then try to boot up windows, the laptop will not boot. It goes to the screen about fixing the boot up. Nothing from advanced trouble shooting works. Now my Battery 1 shows 0% all the time when plugged into power cord and when the laptop is plugged into power cord battery 2 shows 100%. So what is my problem? Do I need to replace the battery under the keyboard and can the battery be replaced in a Surface laptop book 2?

    Hello, Neil Rensch.

    Welcome to Microsoft Community!

After reading what you posted, I noticed that your Surface Book 2 is not sustaining work when not connected to a power source.

You noticed that Battery 1 keeps showing 0%, and while the battery number doesn't point directly to the screen or keyboard dock, it more than likely points to the screen battery.

Until we can confirm whether the screen battery is experiencing a hardware performance issue, we can try the following driver-level troubleshooting options:

    Reinstall the power driver:

    1. Plug in your Surface Book 2.
    2. Select Search on the taskbar, enter device manager, and then select Device Manager from the list of results.
    3. Select the arrow next to the Batteries category.
    4. Double-tap or double-click Microsoft Surface ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery or Surface Battery, select the Driver tab, and select Uninstall Device > OK.

You can also right-click Microsoft Surface ACPI-Compliant Battery or Surface Battery, and then select Uninstall device. 5. Select the computer at the top of all the categories, select the Action menu, and then select Scan for hardware changes. 6. Select Start > Power > Restart.

Next, go ahead and try to get the driver and firmware installer for Surface Book 2 manually:

Download Surface Book 2 Drivers and Firmware from Official Microsoft Download Center

This helps us troubleshoot potential driver issues and maintain device performance.

The above steps are usually effective if the problem originates from the driver.

If the problem persists, then this would ultimately point to a hardware issue with the battery. Typically, the Microsoft community will recommend users to get in touch with the Surface technical support team for professional hardware service.

But let me kindly remind you here that the Surface Book 2 was discontinued worldwide in July this year. Microsoft no longer officially provides out-of-warranty repair services for it.

As a community support, we hope that every need of our users can be responded to. However, we can't hide the fact of discontinued support from you, so we hope you understand.

Therefore, if you wish to continue using this Surface Book 2, obtaining hardware support from other sources may be a more effective option. (Battery replacement, etc.)

If you have a replacement device or other needs, we respect and understand.

In the meantime, I'll share the Surface Store link with you here:

Thank you for your support and understanding of Surface products.

Finally, please allow me to express my sincere wishes.

    Best Regards.
