Surface Pen issues

Question

I picked up a Surface Pro 5 for a good price and I'm having issues with the pen.

I'm not sure if it is even a Microsoft pen.

It's Silver, 2 buttons on the side, clip and purple button on the top.

It's working like a mouse and I can ink but the buttons baffle me.

Pressing the lower button on the side turns it off. I've been removing the battery to start it up again.

It's shown in Pen Settings with the buttons set to perform different functions but I can't get them to work.

I'm not sure if it is paired via Bluetooth or how to do that if it actually supports Bluetooth.

It's not showing when I search for Bluetooth devices with my phone it doesn't show.

What I'd at least like to be able to do is right click with it. Even better if I could use all of the buttons.

All available updates have been installed.

Identify your Surface Pen and features - Microsoft Support should help - it sounds like you have

It may need new batteries Change Surface Pen batteries - Microsoft Support - both an AAAA and the coin cells. The coin cell powers Bluetooth. You have to hold down the purple button to pair it. This is an old pen. It may have stopped working properly.

Thanks. That looks like it.

Battery was the first thing I replaced.

Oddly, I reset the pc for another reason and the hold for right click now works and the side button doesn't turn it off now.

I'll see if I can pair it to get the side buttons doing something.

Did you replace both sets of batteries? Pairing (Bluetooth) only impacts the purple button. Everything else on these pens should work without pairing.

I didn't know about the two up top but I'll look at replacing those too.

Side buttons are working now after that System Restore.

One is eraser and one lasoo.

I didn't know until I was inking.
