Why is it so difficult to charge the Microsoft Surface Pro?

The charging cable that came with my original purchase (from John Lewis) started to deteriorate (wires getting exposed close to charging slot) and stop working.

So, I had to buy another charger (from John Lewis: Microsoft Surface Go 24W Power Supply ) but, after a few months, this also stopped working.

In February 2024 I bought yet another charger (see screenshot below):

This has also stopped working (seems dead and green charging light won't go on).

Why are these chargers not lasting/working properly? Is there another way I can charge my Surface?

Many thanks for any help and suggestions.

Kay

    Kay,

The 24W Go charger was not the correct charger for a SP7, it is under powered. THE SP7 uses a 65W charger.

Microsoft does not recommend third party chargers. How to charge Surface - Microsoft Support

Your SP7 has a USB-C port which should support charging with a certified 60W or higher PD USB-C charger. How to charge Surface Pro 7 via USB-C? - SurfaceTip may help.

    Thank-you, Barb, for your reply.

As you will see from the picture, I used a 65W charger. The Amazon info clearly states that this charger is compatible with the Surface Pro 7.

    Can you please:

    • Give me the direct link to where I can buy a charger from Microsoft.
    • Tell me from where I can get a certified 60W or higher PD USB-C charger from? Please send me direct link to purchase this product.

    Many thanks.
