I returned from a trip, and when I boot my Surface Pro 3 I get the following message below. Of course I didn't back up anything like a smart computer user would, and would like to retrieve data if possible before wiping the machine. Any help/suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

    Hi Travoy,

The challenge you are experiencing with Surface Pro 3 might be software-related. This means that a setting may not be set up appropriately, or that a specific driver is not installed correctly. To address this concern, we suggest that you follow the methods below and see if it helps:

Method 1: Perform an automatic startup repair.

    • Boot from Windows 10 USB or bootable media.

    • Click Repair your computer.

    • Click Advanced Options.

    • Click Troubleshoot.

    • Click Startup repair.

    • Follow the onscreen instruction.

Method 2: Perform a startup repair using command via command prompt.

    • Boot from Windows 10 USB or bootable media.

    • Click Repair your computer.

    • Click Advanced Options.

    • Click Troubleshoot. and then command prompt.

    • Type these commands:

    bootrec /fixmbr

    bootrec /fixboot

    bootrec /rebuildbcd

    • If the above command fails, try these other suggested commands:

    bootrec /scanos

    bootrec /rebuildbcd

    bootrec /fixmbr

    bootrec /fixboot

Method 3: Perform a system recovery or factory reset.

You can refer to this link for more information.

System Recovery re-formats the system drive, re-installs the original operating system, and re-installs all the original hardware drivers and software.

Factory Reset removes all partitions, re-formats the entire hard drive, re-installs the original operating system, and re-installs all the original hardware drivers and software.

Doing a system restore and factory reset also needs a Windows installation media, which you can create on a normal functioning computer.

Update us with the outcome so we can further assist you.

    Regards.
