    Hello Jennifer Bahr1,

Thanks for reaching out to Microsoft Community.

We understand how important this settings is for your device.

Just to confirm, were you trying to select an option in the Startup settings on Windows recovery menu? (See photo below for reference)

If yes, have you tried tapping the option on the screen instead? Your Surface device has touch screen functionality, you might want to try it. Otherwise, try using the volume buttons as well.

Let us know how it goes. We look forward to your response.

    Regards,

    StevenK

Yes, that is the area, technically the next screen where I am trying to select an option is the problem. The touchscreen does not select anything and the volume buttons don't seem to do anything either. The connected keyboard and onscreen keyboard don't work either. Thanks for suggestions

Thanks for keeping us posted, Jennifer Bahr1.

Instead of Bluetooth keyboard, do you have a type cover that we could try connecting to your Surface instead? It would be better if we could test a type cover on your device.

    We'll wait for your response.

No, I don't have another keyboard to try.

If that's the case, just a suggestion though, you may visit an authorized retailer (such as Best Buy) and test a type cover there. It's important that we could test a type cover on your device to determine whether this is a software or hardware issue already.
