Resolution problems

I am a surface studio user. When I change my resolution to 1920x1080 before, both active signal resolution and desktop changed and black borders should appear on the top and below the screen. But now when I change my resolution to 1920x1080, my screen didn't become smaller but stretched vertically longer. How can the black borders appear again so that my screen can be smaller?

    Hi hello-hihi,

Thank you for reaching out Microsoft Community. Sorry for the delayed response.

To initially troubleshoot this issue, I'd like you to clear the display cache first. Please follow Solution # 5 from this link>>https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/4023496/surface-troubleshoot-connecting-to-a-second-screen. After clearing the display cache, kindly disconnect the monitor and the Surface device, restart your Surface and re-establish its connection again. Once done, you can press and hold Windows + P and choose "extend". If the second monitor still has black borders on the top and below screen, check in Display Settings the recommend resolution intended for the second display.

    Kind Regards,

    Hi hello-hihi,

    Sorry for the delayed response.

I can only provide you the step by step process in changing the screen resolution of your Surface device. You may try changing the screen resolution from recommended to a lesser screen size to test if this is going to let you achieve the screen resolution of your preference. Please visit the link for instruction>>https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/4026956/windows-10-change-screen-resolution.
