Hi CurtisWhyte,
Thanks for reaching Microsoft Surface Community. I’m sorry hear about your concern with regards on your touch screen. We do have some suggestions and follow up questions just to have this isolated and lead us to the right resolution.
What is the current version and OS Build of your Surface Pro 3?
(To find out which version and build of Windows you're using, select Start > Settings > System > About , then look under Windows Specifications to find your operating system version and OS build number.)
You are still not updated, please try to go to Windows Settings> Update and Security> Check for updates.
Probably this is more on a hardware or a Software issue. We greatly appreciate and salute you in trying those steps. Please try this suggestions below and check if it’s working on every steps that you perform.
Suggestion 1 :
Proceed on running Surface Diagnostic Toolkit on your Surface device.
By the used of this tool, the Software and hardware of it will be checked. It will under go to some refreshed.
Suggestion 2:
I'm not sure, on how did you uninstall the driver on it but seems like you visit the "FIRMWARE" part of the Device manager and uninstall the "Surface Touch".
Other ways, you can try to uninstall this driver. But I'm not sure if you've already tried to uninstall it but, try to go to Device Manager> Human Interface Devices > Uninstall HID - Compliant touch screen.
But if you have this option on where shows a thick Box saying " Delete the Driver software for this device". You can have that check and delete it. We can just download it again to and check if works.
In downloading it again, you can follow this steps:
Go to this link : https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/4023482/surface-download-drivers-and-firmware-for-surface
- If you don't know your Surface model, select the searchbox on the taskbar in and type Surface, select the Surface app from the menu, then select Your Surface. Your model will be listed on the screen that appears.
- To find out which version and build of Windows you're using, select Start > Settings > System > About, then look under Windows Specifications to find your operating system version and OS build number.
Open About settings
- To update your Surface with the latest drivers and firmware from the Download Center, select the .msi file name that matches your Surface model and version of Windows. For example, to update a Surface Book 2 with build 15063 of Windows 10, choose SurfaceBook2_Win10_15063_1702009_2.msi. For a Surface Book 2 with build 16299 of Windows 10, choose SurfaceBook2_Win10_16299_1703009_2.msi.
Suggestion 3:
If you have already perform Reset on Surface Device, Maybe doing a Recovery Image is the last option.
If resetting the device won’t work. Try doing Recovery Image on it.
· This option reimages the entire device, including the partition on the hard drive.
· It is the most complete form of reset.
· You will need to back up their personal data.
· You will need to reinstall desktop apps. Customers will need to run updates after completion.
If the issue occurs after a reset, then the root cause is very likely hardware related.
If all this steps didn’t work and still having the same issue. You can take advantage on the warranty of your Surface device and proceed to online exchange.
Other ways, you can visit the nearest Microsoft Store in your area to have this check or do a real time exchange as long as they do have the same model as yours. You can call them first and check if they have. You can refer on this link if you wanted to book an appointment online : https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/store/locations/find-a-store
You can also contact our Microsoft Support at 1-800-642-7676 or Chat with us at http://www.microsoft.com/surface/en-us/support
