Microsoft Surface Pro 1796 i5 (5th gen) - Display port not connecting HDMI monitor

Hi community, how are you?

I'm reaching you out in order to see if someone faced the same problem and was able to find a solution. The problem is quite straightforward - I'm unable to connect a secondary monitor to the computer using a Mini Display Port adapter to HDMI. I have tried 2 different adapters (a generic one and a Microsoft one), also tried multiple monitors (old and moderns alike) and still I'm not able to connect to the secondary monitor.

My assumption is that maybe this display port doesn't support HDMI? Which would be odd, since Display port 1.2 supports up to 4k HDMIs if I'm not mistaken. Being that said, does anyone has an idea what I can troubleshoot further? Try reinstalling some specific driver regarding the Disply port maybe?

My next try is to purchase a Display Port to VGA adapter and try that on an even older model of monitor.

Any advice would be greatgully appreciated! Thanks

Pablo

    Hello PabloIaCo,

Thanks for reaching out to Microsoft Community. I'm sorry to hear about this issue on your device and external monitor. I understand how frustrating it is to have such issue. I'll do my best to help.

If I may ask, what version and edition of Windows your device is running?

What is the make and model of your external monitor?

Were you using a Surface dock to connect to the external monitor?

In the meantime, since you haven't done any troubleshooting yet, I want you to follow the methods from Troubleshoot connecting Surface to a second screen (microsoft.com) to troubleshoot your device.

Then, let me know how it goes. I'll wait for your response.

    Regards,

    StevenK
