Poor Battery Performance on Surface Laptop Studio

Hello,

For the duration of the time that I have owned my Laptop Studio, the battery life has fallen far short of the expected times claimed by Microsoft. Are there any certain settings that I need to check to help with this? I keep the power mode in automatic and always plug the device in for performance-heavy applications, so the battery is only being used for internet surfing, e-mail and typing or spreadsheet work. The usage does not make sense as battery saver always kicks in within 2.5 to 3 hours after being removed from the charger with the device lasting for at maximum 5 hours, usually only 4. Please advise.

    Hello WyattLockhart,

Thanks for reaching out to Microsoft Community. I'm sorry for the inconvenience this has caused you. I understand how concerning it is to have such problem on your device.

Before anything else, I'd like to ask some questions for us to further isolate the issue.

    • May I know what version of Windows your device running is?
    • Does your battery drain more while in sleep or just using with applications?
    • May I also know which apps contributed more to battery drain?
    • When was the last time you updated your device?
    • Were you also running third-party software such anti-virus in the background?

In the meantime, I'd like to inform you that Surface has designed this generation of devices to be up to twice as fast with a balance of performance, battery life, and great user experiences in a thin and light design. As a result of increased performance, overall battery life has been impacted, but we expect users will continue to get a full day of use from their Surface, and faster charging when they need it. Surface measures battery life based on a user profile that reflects how a typical Surface customer uses their device. To know more about how battery was tested, check Surface Laptop Studio – Infinitely flexible – Microsoft Surface, scroll down to bottom and see section 1 about battery life.

I look forward to hearing from you soon.

    Regards,

    StevenK

    Hi StevenK,

The laptop is running on Windows 11. The battery mostly does drain when using applications such as Edge, Excel and Outlook. However, the laptop does seem to use battery heavily while asleep also. If the laptop is left on overnight with the lid closed, the laptop will have significantly lower charge the next day. According to power settings, Microsoft Edge is using most of the battery. The device is updated as soon as new updates arrive and was up to date at the writing of this post. No third party software was in use.

    Thank you,

    Wyatt
