Surface Pro External Monitor 4K Display

I have two Surface Pros one 3 and one 4.  The 3 will display 4K on my TV or new Samsung Monitor, however the 4 will only display the surface screen resolution of 2736x1824 when in duplicate mode and 1920x1080 in extend mode.  How do I get it to display 4K in extend mode as per the Pro 3?

I have gone through all the fixes I can find on line and nothing seems to work.  The Surface Pro 4 seems to work with more cables than the 3, even using the cable that works on the 3 the 4 will still not display 4k.

Thanks

Steve

    Hi StephenMansfield,

Thank you for reaching out to Microsoft Community.

Can you please check what is the current Driver versions of the Graphics driver of both device then share it with us here. Go to Device Manager, expand Display adapter. Double-click Intel HD Graphics then go to the Driver tab where you'll find the Driver version.

For now, please do these steps on the Surface Pro 4 while the monitor is connected:

    1: Clear Display cache

Go to this page and refer to Solution 5 : Troubleshoot connecting Surface to a second monitor.

2: Run Surface Diagnostic Toolkit and check Windows Update

    3: Update drivers and firmware

Check what is the current OS Build of your Windows version by going to Settings > System > About.

Go to Download driver and firmware for Surface, choose Surface Pro 4 then click Download on the next page.

Choose the .msi file that matches your current OS Build and click Next.

After downloading, run and install the .msi then Restart.

    Hi Marrion Y,

    Thank you for your response,

I am pretty sure I have tried all the things you say but will give them another go tomorrow evening.  Meanwhile I have attached a snip of the driver info in the text below.  The system reports that this is the best driver, buy hey, it could be wrong 😊

I have tried the solution 5, SDT and upgrades multiple times with no success.  I have automatic updates turned on and it would appear my firmware is newer than those on the list - unless I am missing something.

These are only the results for the Pro 4, do you want the same for the Pro 3?

    Cheers

    Steve
