Any solutions?
Issues with Surface Book's Bluetooth LE
Hi, I'm having issues with my Bluetooth LE mouse where it won't auto reconnect after a reboot, or after switching the mouse off and on. The mouse in question is a RAPOO MT750. I also have similar Bluetooth problems with the latest Surface Pen which I'll discuss below.
The mouse works fine when I first pair and use it, but when the mouse disconnects, either from being manually turned off, or disconnecting after a while with no usage (same problem with Surface Pen), it fails to auto reconnect. I have to go into Bluetooth, forget, and re-pair the mouse.
What I've done to Troubleshoot:
- Re-pair mouse
- Turn off and on mouse
- Turn off and on Bluetooth
- Reboot Surface Book
- Reinstall Bluetooth drivers
- Uncheck 'allow computer to turn off devices to save power'
- Run Bluetooth troubleshooter
- Run Surface diagnostics tool
- Restart Bluetooth service
- Set Bluetooth service to 'automatic'
Why I think it's the Surface
- The mouse doesn't exhibit this behaviour with a USB Bluetooth adapter. When turned off and on, it auto reconnects in a matter of seconds.
- The mouse doesn't exhibit this behaviour with my phone. Same as above.
- The mouse doesn't exhibit this behaviour on a Chromebox. Same as above
- The fact that the mouse auto reconnects as expected on other devices (along with the Surface Pen problem) leads me to conclude there's something wrong with the Surface's Bluetooth LE radio.
Bluetooth 3 vs Bluetooth LE
When pairing the mouse, it shows up as 2 devices, a Bluetooth 3 device and a Bluetooth LE device. Naturally, I choose the newer LE standard. The mouse doesn't auto reconnect to my Surface Book, even though it does with a USB adapter, my phone, and a Chromebox. Out of curiosity, I then try to pair using Bluetooth 3. Strangely, when paired via Bluetooth 3, the mouse auto reconnects as expected. I don't really want to use my mouse with Bluetooth 3 due to the higher battery usage, and not being able to see the remain battery life in Windows, but I guess I kind of have to.
Surface Pen Problems
My Surface Pen (the one with no clip) exhibits the same Bluetooth disconnecting behaviour. When first paired and connected, the top button works fine. I have the pen's button mappings configured correctly, and it works as expected. After about 10 to 15 minutes (same amount of time for the mouse to disconnect due to idle) of not clicking the button on the pen, the button no longer works. I then have to forget and re-pair the pen for the button to work again. Note that inking and erasing works fine without Bluetooth, the battery of the pen is sufficient, and I've tried replacing the AAAA battery. The reason I included the Surface Pen problem here is because it kind of has the same behaviour as the mouse, where it disconnects when idle, and doesn't auto reconnect.
Any help is appreciated
Edit
Just to clarify, I have the original Surface Book. The pen that I'm having issues with isn't the one that came in the box, it's the new Surface Pen.
