    Hi Natasha Alkire,

Thank you for posting in Microsoft Community.

I understand that your Surface Pro 8 keyboard and pen suddenly stopped working. There are a lot of probable causes why this happen, there may be a driver issue with your keyboard or pen. Or could be related to a system update. I am here to help and let us work on this together and isolate the problem. Allow me to ask some questions so we can further isolate your issue.

    • May I know when did this issue started?
    • Were there any changes made or update installed prior to this issue to happen?
    • What build version of Windows you are currently running?

Here are some steps you can try to resolve the issue:

    1. Force a restart: Press and hold the power button for 20 seconds to force a restart. If the keyboard and pen still don’t work, try the next step.
    2. Detach and reattach the keyboard and pen: Unplug your Surface and detach the keyboard and pen. Make sure there’s no debris, damage, or anything that may inhibit a connection. Re-attach the keyboard and pen, making sure that all the magnets touch the bottom edge of your Surface.
    3. Get the latest updates: Check if there are any pending updates for your Surface device. You can quickly check the health of your Surface drivers and firmware using the Surface app. Open the Surface app, expand Help & support to check if the update status is “You’re up to date” or something else. If needed, select the option to update the devices.
    4. Confirm connectivity: Press the Caps and Fn keys on your Surface Type Cover or Keyboard several times to check whether the LED lights turn on. If the LED lights turn on, your problem may be with Windows and not the device itself. The next step is to reset your Surface. See Restore or reset Surface for Windows - Microsoft Support. If the LED lights don't turn on, there might be a hardware issue. To verify in UEFI, do the following:
      1. Select StartSettingsSystemRecovery.
      2. Next to Advanced startup, select Restart Now.
      3. Under Choose an option, select TroubleshootAdvanced OptionsUEFI Firmware Settings, and then select Restart.
      4. Press the up and down arrow keys to change what is selected on the left side menu to check if the keys work or not.

Let me know how it goes.

    Kind regards,

    Lavenia
