Surface go 2 Tablet - bought in canada & usage in France

I bought my Surface Go 2 tablet in Canada (110-120 Volt) but I am moving to France (220 Volt).

  1. Can I use my charger with only the 2 pongs adapter (no converter)? (Is it dual voltage-compatible)?
  2. If I buy a new charger in France, can I safely charge my Surface Go 2 Tablet?

Thanks!

    Hi SarahClavel,

Thanks for reaching out to Microsoft Community and posting your inquiry.

The Surface Go 2 comes with a 24 watts charger. While purchasing a new original charger could cost you more money, we suggest to purchase just the charger adapter compatible in France for your charger. This is to avoid any overwhelming current on the device. I also included the details below for your reference:

Power supply unit model # Surface model Main charger USB port on charger Total wattage
    1735 Surface Go 2 15 volts @ 1.6 amps=24 watts No USB port 24 watts

    Hope this helps.

Hello, thanks a lot for the answer. Still a bit confused.

    1. My understand is that an adapter is just a 2 pongs device that allows to plug in France (eg. https://www.goinginstyle.net/adapters/france-adapter-plugs-set), it isn't a voltage transformer. What do you mean by "charger adapter compatible in France"? would that avoid overwhelming my device?
    2. If I did prefer buying a new charger (personal choice, even if it's more expensive), would a regular charger from Microsoft france work (**)? or is my device only compatible with North-American charger?
    3. (**) Would any of these 2 work:

    >>>>>> https://www.amazon.fr/Chargeur-Microsoft-Surface1706-Ordinateurs-Portables/dp/B07MB1SBWQ

    1. Maybe you have recommendations of a safe place to buy it online? I don't see much options on the microsoft website...?

    Thanks

The charger adapter allows you to use the original charger of your device. This will covert the current/electricity that goes into your device. I search through Bing.com and found a charger adapter for France below:

If you'd like to purchase a new charger in France, we suggest checking the Microsoft France website: https://www.microsoft.com/fr-fr/d/bloc-dalimentation-surface-24w/8mg0jqhkpfwk?cid=msft_web_collection&activetab=pivot%3aoverviewtab

Hello, I still a bit confused (sorry). Usually, adapter do not convert current, but only allow to plug the charger into the local electrical outlet. As a matter of fact, when I did try using an adapter as you suggested, it burnt out my charger....

Thus, could you please confirm that the charger you recommended (https://www.microsoft.com/fr-fr/d/bloc-dalimentation-surface-24w/8mg0jqhkpfwk?cid=msft_web_collection&activetab=pivot:overviewtab&SilentAuth=1&wa=wsignin1.0) will 100% work with my microsoft surface go 2 tablet purchased in Canada/?

    Thanks.

What you are calling a charger is not a charger, the brick is called a power adaptor that's designed for multiple voltage inputs that steps down the wall outlet power that's compatible with the input on your computer. The charger itself is built into the computer. Off hand I don't know what the voltages are in France (220 apparently) but if you look closely at the power adaptor (the brick) it will have printed on it the range of acceptable input voltages which is likely compatible with the wall voltage in France. All you need is either a new compatible AC supply cord or an adaptor such as pictured earlier in this thread. The power adaptor is deliberately designed in two pieces to make country compatibility easier with no need to buy an additional power adaptor, just the AC cord. Hope that helps.

Edit: I should also the add the two prong input on the brick is quite common often used with printers or even DVD players and such so it shouldn't be too hard to find. If France's voltage is more than the range printed on the brick then you'll need a new compatible power adaptor (the brick).
