Windows Update Download and Installation Lagging

I have tried to update my Surface Pro 9 to the latest Security Intelligence Update for Microsoft Defender Antivirus - KB2267602 (Version 1.403.1516.0) - Current Channel (Broad) but it has been stuck at 35% for almost an hour.

I tried applying several actions to fix it (such as these: Trouble installing Surface updates? - Microsoft Support) but it's still not working.

When running the troubleshoot for updates it shows that there is a problem detected but it's not giving me the option to fix it? Not sure if this should be the case.

    Hello,

Thank you for posting in Microsoft Community.

I am aware that you're experiencing issues with updating your Surface Pro 9.  Based on the information you provided, it seems that you have already tried several troubleshooting steps to resolve the issue, but the problem persists. I am here to help and let us work on this together. Allow me to ask some questions.

    • May I know which Surface pro 9 configuration do you have, the Intel or 5G(SQ3)?
    • What build version of Windows you are currently running?

Here are some steps you can try:

Check the Surface drivers' health through the Surface and run the Surface Diagnostic Toolkit

See: Fix common Surface problems using the Surface app and Surface Diagnostic Toolkit - Microsoft Support

Manually download and install the update from the Microsoft Update Catalog website. Here are the steps:

    1. Go to the Microsoft Update Catalog website (https://www.catalog.update.microsoft.com/home.aspx).
    2. In the search box, type "KB2267602" and press Enter.
    3. Select the appropriate version of the update for your device and click Download.
    4. Once the download is complete, double-click the downloaded file to install the update.

If this doesn't work, you can try resetting the Windows Update components. Here are the steps:

    1. Press the Windows key + X and select Command Prompt (Admin).
    2. Type the following commands and press Enter after each one:

    net stop wuauserv

    net stop cryptSvc

    net stop bits

    net stop msiserver

    1. Rename the SoftwareDistribution and Catroot2 folders by typing the following commands and pressing Enter after each one:

    ren C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution SoftwareDistribution.old

    ren C:\Windows\System32\catroot2 Catroot2.old

    1. Type the following commands and press Enter after each one:

    net start wuauserv

    net start cryptSvc

    net start bits

    net start msiserver

    1. Close the Command Prompt and restart your device.

If none of these steps resolve the issue, kindly give answers to the questions above so we can further isolate your issue and formulate appropriate troubleshooting steps.

I hope to hear from you soon.

    Kind regards,

    Lavenia
