Connecting to a low resolution projector

Tried and failed in my first attempt to use my Surface RT for a PPT presentation - using a client's projector. The Micro HDMI adapter cable was needed to physically connect and the Surface made that connecting bing for a new device, but no image was projected. I tried using the various Extend, Duplicate options but they made no difference. Ended up having to use the client's laptop.

I don't have the brand or resolution spec's of that projector, but it is an older machine and I'm fairly sure the issue is one of non-compatibility with low resolution projectors.

Is there a work around?

    Greetings David-e,

Thanks for following up with us. Please try connecting to the projector with either the VGA adapter or the HDMI adapter, and doing the following:

    1. Right click on your Desktop.
    2. Click on Screen Resolution.
    3. Click on Detect (attempt to connect to the Projector).
    4. Select the Projector (should be listed as 2 while 1 is the Surface RT's screen).
    5. Click on Advanced Settings.
    6. Click on List All Modes in the bottom left.
    7. Set the mode to 800x600.

    Let me know what happens.

    Hi there David-e.

I am sorry to hear you had troubles connecting your Surface with a projector.  To clarify, is this the only projector you have tried to connect to or have you been able to connect to others previously?  Did you follow the steps listed here, for connecting to a projector?

If you are able to get the make and model information of the projector, you can check the Windows Compatibility Center for details on whether or not it is supported.

I hope you find this helpful. Thanks for following up!

Hi Jordana_S, Yes that was my first and so far only attempt to us a projector. I did follow the steps in the link you provided. I'll be meeting with the client next week, so I'll see if I can get the make and model then.

I'm just starting a new line of work that will - I hope - frequently involve me using client's projector's for presentations. And I've noted from other posts that the Surface RT has compatibility issues with lower resolution projectors.

So I'm wondering if there are any adapters or other work arounds that would maximize my chances of being to successfully use a wider range of projectors.

    Greetings David,

Does the projector that your client has, support VGA connections?

Not sure. I was using the HD Digital AV Adapter. I'll try to get that information when I meet with the client next week. David.
