Cursor doesn't respond without multiple clicks

I just got my Surface Studio Pro 2 and I'm having issues with the mouse cursor. When I click into a window online I often have to click at least three times before I can begin typing. Just one click and the keyboard is unresponsive. I've also had some of this problem while writing emails where the first couple of letters will be missing when I start typing. It gets better through the day but if the computer goes to sleep is starts all over again. This is such a basic function I just can't imagine why a very expensive computer would have this problem. I'd appreciate any help. Thanks.

    Hi Siamlily,

Thank you for posting your concern here.

Can you confirm if you are currently using the bundled Surface Mouse and Keyboard? If Yes, you may try the following steps below.

For the delay on your mouse:

    • Close all your open apps. Then see if the cursor improves. If it does, the number of open apps might have been interfering with your PC’s connection to the mouse.
    • Restart your PC. This will refresh the drivers.
    • **Change the cursor settings.**Select the Start ****button, and then select Settings

    > Devices > Mouse > Additional mouse options > Pointer Options and adjust the pointer speed.

If you are still getting the same issue, Please run the Surface Diagnostic Toolkit by clicking this link.

Please keep us posted of the results so we can further assist you.

    Regards,

    Hi Beau

I don't think that's the problem. It's not slow, it's unresponsive. I have noticed that it happens if I don't use the computer for awhile. It doesn't have to have gone asleep to make it happen, it happens if I don't type anything for a good while even though I'm using the computer. It's as if the mouse cursor has to be awakened by my clicking it three or four times into a window.

    Thanks,

    Jane

    Hi Siamlily,

You may try the steps below.

**Method 1: Run power troubleshooter.**Let’s run the power troubleshooter and check.

1-Press Windows key + X and click on Control Panel.

2-Double click on troubleshooting and click on view all.

    1. Click power and hit next to run the power troubleshooter.
    2. Follow the on screen directions to complete the process. Once it is done, close all windows and restart the computer

**Method 2:**You can create and customize your own power plans.

1.Open Power Options by swiping in from the right edge of the screen, tapping “Search” (or if you're using a mouse, pointing to the upper-right corner of the screen, moving the mouse pointer down, and then clicking “Search”), entering “Control Panel” in the search box, tapping or clicking “Apps”, and then tapping or clicking “Control Panel”. In Control Panel, enter “Power” in the search box, and then press Enter.

    1. Tap or click “Create a power plan” and follow the instructions.

Method 3: If the issue persists Perform a clean boot.

    Clean Boot:

    • You must log on to the computer as an administrator to be able to perform a clean boot.

    • Your computer may temporarily lose some functionality when you perform a clean boot. When you start the computer normally, the functionality returns. However, you may receive the original error message, or experience the original behavior if the problem still exists.

    • If the computer is connected to a network, network policy settings may prevent you from following these steps. We strongly recommend that you do not use the System Configuration utility to change the advanced boot options on the computer unless a Microsoft support engineer directs you to do this. Doing this may make the computer unusable.

Disclaimer : To start the computer in normal mode refer the section, "How to reset the computer to start normally after clean boot troubleshooting" from the link below

I suggest you to try the steps provided, in the link below in order to perform a clean boot on your computer.

Note : Update latest drivers from the manufacturer's website, if unable to try installing in compatibility mode.

Please update us of the outcome.

If you are still having the issue I would try a couple of things...

First, do you have any other Bluetooth devices (such as a speaker) connected to your Studio besides the Keyboard, Mouse and Pen?  Go to the Start Menu, select Settings, select Bluetooth & other devices to see a list of connected devices.  If there are other devices you may try removing them to see if that helps.

Second, if the above step does not help or apply, you can unpair and then re-pair your Keyboard and Mouse.  Since this will remove the Keyboard and Mouse temporarily you will have to touch your screen to re-pair them:

    1. Go to the Start Menu, select Settings, select Bluetooth & other devices.
    2. Select on the Surface Keyboard and click Remove Device.
    3. Select on the Surface Mouse and click Remove Device.
    4. Press and hold the pairing button on the bottom of your Surface Mouse until the pairing light is blinking.
    5. Tap the screen on Add Bluetooth or other Device, tap Bluetooth, tap Microsoft Surface Mouse.
    6. Press and hold the pairing button on you the left end of your Surface Keyboard until the pairing light (located above the arrow keys) is blinking.
    7. Select Add Bluetooth or other Device, select Bluetooth, select Microsoft Surface Keyboard.

    Hope this helps.

Thank you for the timely reply. I thought my mouse/cursor had cured itself but today it started acting up again. I'll try these different steps.
