When does the 1 year limited warranty start

I just purchased a surface laptop 4. Brand new never opened, however it says the warranty has expired; How is that possible?

    The warranty of the Surface should start from the date of purchase. See; Surface warranty: FAQ - Microsoft Support for more details. For this case, please contact our live support for assistance in making the necessary adjustments if needed. Have the copy of the proof of purchase ready since our live support would need a copy of it. You may contact our live support through these options below:

    1: Through the Surface app

    Open the Surface App and select Help & support > Get help.

    Type in the problem you need help with.

    Look at any available solutions offered and select Contact Support.
