RDS License server on W2019 does not issue RDS2019 per-device CAL to Chromebooks

Hi,

We run RDS license server on a W2019 server and have installed RDS2012 licenses and RDS2019 licenses, all per-device. I can see that the license server is issueing RDS2012 and RDS2019 licenses to my client devices. When the RDS2012 pool is empty the license server start issueing the RDS2019 licenses as expected. However, we now notice that the RDS2019 licenses are not issued to Chromebooks, only RDS2012 are issued to these devices. If I revoke some RDS2012 licenses, not from Chromebooks of course, and connect a Chromebook then the Chromebook is issued one of the revoked RDS2012 licences. The devices from which the RDS2012 license was revoked is issued a RDS2019 license as long as it is not a Chromebook.

Has anybody a clue why we see this behaviour on the RDS license server? We already performed a rebuild via the ClearingHouse but that didn't help.

Cheers,

Frank

    Hello KarlieWeng,
thank you for your reply. First I should mention that my post was not complete. We use Citrix software in our environment and the Chromebooks are running the latest available Citrix Workspace app.

If a device has a valid RDS license then the Licensing server will not issue a new RDS license which off course makes sense.
However if I have a brand new Chromebook or a Chromebook with an expired temporary RDS2012 license then I run into a logon problem if the Licensing server does not have a RDS2012 license available anymore. There are enough RDS2019 licenses available but these are not issued (a temporary RDS2019 is also not issued) to the Chromebook so that the user cannot logon.

Brand new Windows devices (or Apple devices) get a RDS2019 license issued as expected. As of this week we also discovered that our Linux-based devices (Wyse 5070 Thinclients) don't always get a RDS2019 license issued.

Revoking issued RDS2012 licenses resolves the problem for the Chromebooks because they then get a revoked RDS2012 license issued.

I am somewhat puzzled by your remark about editing the Windows Registry on the client device since my client device is a Chromebook or a Linux-based thinclient.

    Cheers,
    Frank

    Hello Karlie,
thank you for your reply. At this moment we run our RD environment on Windows Server 2012, later this year we plan move to Windows Server 2019.

    Cheers,
    Frank
