Surface Pro 7+ black screen after update

I am having an issue where my surface pro now black screens with a cursor after an update. This only recently started happening.

Here is what I have tried:

Power Cycling With and without the power cable plugged in

Hard restart

Reinstalling Windows

Updating non-windows updates before Windows updates

Turning the Surface on with and without the power cable.

Hard Restarting while making sure nothing was plugged in.

I am sure the Surface pro is on. I am able to see the cursor and move it around. I also checked the projector settings to see if they had changed somehow. I also tried plugging in another monitor to see if it would pop up on that monitor and not the device.

When Reinstalling windows, I see the screen fine. There are no issues until I run windows and perform an update.

    Hello JneubauerIT,

Thanks for reaching out to Microsoft Community. I'm sorry to hear about this issue on your device. I understand how frustrating it is to have such problem.

I appreciate all the troubleshooting you did. But have you already tried the methods on Troubleshooting black or blank screens in Windows - Microsoft Support and Troubleshoot black screen or blank screen errors - Microsoft Support? If not yet, I'd suggest doing so.

    Looking forward to your response.

    Regards,

    Thanks for confirming, JneubauerIT.

If those methods did not work, then this might be due to a potential hardware problem already. Any hardware related concerns are best handled by our Microsoft assisted support. I'd suggest contacting them to get your device diagnosed or check for your replacement options, if necessary.

    1. Go to Contact Us - Microsoft Support and select Devices.
    2. Choose your preferred support method.
    3. Type in the problem you need help with.
    4. Look at any available solutions offered and select Contact Support.

    I hope this helps.

    Best regards,

    StevenK
