Boot issue while docking station connecting to an external monitor via minidisplay port

I have read some of the posts about the docking port interfering with network connections.  But I have a new one.  When my surface pro 3 is docked, and I go to turn it on, it hangs up on the "surface" page.  It will not boot up.  After I remove it, it takes 3 - 6 tries before it will boot.  If I turn the surface on before I dock it, and then put it in the dock, it works fine.  Anyone else had this issue?

    Hello iammle

Off topic or not, you should address the noisy fan first.  A cooling failure could cause more problems than a startup error.

Please contact Support, and we can address startup while docked afterwards.

Let us know when you are serviced and ready to proceed.

    Best regards

    Hello DonWogen

Can we get the full topology of your system?  Looking for the make and model of all devices attached to Surface and the Dock.

I'd also like to verify that once everything is connected and running, you have manually installed all updates.  Be sure to restart and check again, until all possible updates are installed.  If you have to restart while external display is connected to the Surface port, switch back to the Dock port for updates.

Is this device in a business environment, domain joined or using anything but the standard (updated) OS

Let us know what is happening.

    Best regards

Do you have a Display Port Adapter plugged into the Mini Display Port on the Docking Station? Try booting the unit up with that not plugged into the Docking Station once and see if that helps. I have an issue open with Microsoft right now because I have several units that do not boot up properly and hang at the Surface screen when the adapter is plugged into the Mini Display Port on the Docking Station.

Many symptoms that related to docking station is figured by MS later when the issue emerged and later updates the dock's firmware. Try apply new updates WITH dock attached 1st, then try again if the issue still.
