Extending charging cable

I have a Surface 3 with a Micro USB charging connector and a cable to a standard USB which pugs into the charger. How can i extend this? It doesn't work with a normal male to female USB extension cable.

I'd be grateful for any suggestions.

    Hi, BirdInt'Hand!

Thanks for reaching out to Microsoft Community and posting your inquiry. I see you wish to extend your charging cable. To be sure we are on the same page, please allow me to ask questions so I will understand the situation better. Do you have a Surface 3 charger with a USB port on the brick? Do you wish to use a different wire to plug into its USB port to charge another device or the Surface 3? If possible, can you post a photo of what you wish to achieve and label them in the photo? This would really help us out.

    Looking forward for your response!

    Kind regards,

    Janette_Z

Not all cables are equal and Surface 3 is a device that requires a cable that
handles the power needed. What I found was that extension cables did not work at
all. But the combination of https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B019Q4TJZC/ (I got
the 6 foot cable) and https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01KWY703I/ worked.
